Description:
Due to their complex design with an intermediate shaft and two overhead camshafts, the water-cooled boxer engines of the modern Porsche 911 Carrera and Boxster feature a multitude of chains and guide rails. These vary depending on the engine displacement and model year, even within the same series. For example, the chain routing was slightly modified between the 3.4L and 3.6L Carrera engines from 2001 to 2002. The engines of the 911 turbo and GT models, however, are based on the proven 911 technology from the previous models. Here, the timing chains, guide rails, and tensioners for the valve train are fundamentally different.
