Speedometer Odometer Gear PORSCHE 944 S2 911 G SC Carrera Odometer 20x23
Excellent build quality
Description:
If the odometer/trip meter on your vehicle has failed, this gear is almost always the cause. The original beige-brown gears crumble over the years due to a material defect and must be replaced.
Variants:
Most other 944-II models have the 20x21 or the 20x30 installed. Both are available in our shop.
While we can say with a high degree of certainty, we cannot guarantee 100% certainty which model uses which gear size. Too many factors (engine type/transmission type/gear ratio/differential type/year of manufacture/model) are involved.
However, the following data reliably helps in determining the correct gear:
20x21 (17.60mm/9.00mm) Number of teeth on opposing gear: 49 teeth 911/928 mph/944
20x22 (17.60mm/9.40mm) Number of teeth on opposing gear: 48 teeth 911/944 mph
20x23 (17.60mm/9.65mm) Number of teeth on opposing gear: 47 teeth 944(S2)/911(G)
20x29 (17.60mm/12.05mm) Number of teeth on opposing gear: 41 teeth some 928 km/h
20x30 (17.60mm/12.55mm) Number of teeth on opposing partner gear: 40 teeth 911/944
20x32 (17.60mm/13.40mm) Number of teeth on opposing partner gear: 38 teeth 928 km/h
Simply count the teeth of the gear this gear engages with and/or use the dimensions as a guide.
Service:
We stock over 100 gear variants and can supply the appropriate gears if needed!
+ all alternative sizes always in stock
+ fast exchange service in case of size deviation
For repairs, we will send you an illustrated repair manual (German/English) via email. You can also find suitable repair videos on YouTube.
Advantages:
Buying a used speedometer initially saves on repair costs, but carries the risk that the gear will break soon. Storage and cold temperatures are particularly damaging to the gears. Due to an incorrect choice of material by VDO, all original gears of this type will break over time!
If you have the speedometer disassembled, it is also advisable to replace the bulbs. These noticeably lose brightness over the years.
Quality:
Our gears are manufactured using a complex and faithful injection molding process, not 3D-printed in-house designs. We work with a manufacturer specializing in the production of plastic gears and a global market leader in repair solutions.
The involute tooth geometry is retained; this is the only way to ensure low-friction sliding of the tooth flanks between the gear pairs.
We use the thermoplastic material Celron with graphite additives. These ensure low friction and wear-free operation.
If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the speedometer needle shaft is very delicate. Grip the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it counterclockwise, pulling gently. Friction is all that holds the needle on the shaft.
