Porsche 944 & 924S High-Pressure Fuel Hose XL Safety Upgrade
Prevent Fuel Leaks and Reduce the Risk of Engine Bay Fires
Description
One of the most common causes of engine bay fires on the Porsche 944 and 924S is the failure of the original high-pressure fuel hose.
After decades of exposure to heat, pressure and modern ethanol-blended fuels, the factory hose can become brittle, crack or split without warning. A leaking fuel hose can spray fuel directly onto the hot exhaust manifold, creating a serious fire risk.
This upgraded XL high-pressure fuel hose has been redesigned to improve both safety and reliability by allowing the hose to be routed further away from the exhaust system.
Why Upgrade?
Unlike the original hose, this XL version provides additional length, allowing it to be securely routed along the bulkhead rather than directly over the exhaust manifold.
Benefits include:
-
Extra-long hose for improved routing
-
Keeps the fuel line away from hot exhaust components
-
Heat-resistant black outer protective sheath
-
Reduces stress on fuel rail connections
-
Helps prevent cracking around fuel rail fittings
-
Direct replacement for the original high-pressure hose
-
Suitable for preventative maintenance and restoration projects
On early Porsche 944 models and the 924S, the additional length also allows a neater installation beneath the spray rail, improving both appearance and long-term reliability.
Why Original Fuel Hoses Fail
Original fuel hoses are now over 30 years old and commonly suffer from:
-
Age-related cracking
-
Heat damage from the exhaust manifold
-
Deterioration caused by modern ethanol fuels
-
Internal weakening under continuous fuel pressure
-
Sudden failure without warning
Replacing the original hose before it fails is one of the most worthwhile preventative maintenance upgrades you can carry out on a transaxle Porsche.
When Should You Replace It?
Replacement is recommended if:
-
The original fuel hose is still fitted.
-
You notice the smell of fuel in the engine bay.
-
The hose is cracked, hardened or showing signs of age.
-
You are restoring or recommissioning your Porsche.
-
You want to reduce the risk of engine bay fires.
Installation
A vehicle lift or suitable access underneath the vehicle is recommended to allow safe installation and correct routing of the new fuel hose.
