The brake caliper is a central component of the disc brake system, responsible for gripping the brake rotor to slow and stop the vehicle. This aluminium S-caliper represents a significant upgrade over earlier cast iron designs, offering reduced unsprung weight, improved braking performance and superior heat dissipation. Brake calipers can seize due to rust, brittle seals or excessive thermal stress, resulting in pulling to one side, resistance when starting or unusual noise and odour. A defective caliper must be replaced immediately to restore safe braking function.
