Brake dust shields, also known as backing plates, protect the brake system from dust, dirt and fluid ingress, thereby extending the service life of brake components. These shields also guard temperature-sensitive chassis components from excessive heat when the vehicle is stationary. Damaged backing plates should be replaced promptly to prevent safety-relevant failures.
